Join us for our Apr.13 meeting: “Consistency”

“Consistency. Not only is this this week’s theme but it has been a theme in my life for the past few years. It is what made the tortoise win the race. You may not be the biggest, fastest, or most talented, but if you are consistent – you will get to where you want to go.” – Jay

Join us at this week’s Liberty Village Toastmasters meeting on Wed. April 13 at the Harbourfront Community Centre, Assembly Room C. Our Toastmaster, Jay, will give us all a lesson on “Consistency”.

We also have three prepared speeches: Luke will present his well-organized sophomore speech, Eric will teach us about putting together a winning proposal, and Simon will be summoning the inner-actor inside of himself with an interpretive reading.

Don’t miss it!

Join us for our April 6 meeting: “Serendipity”

Do you believe in serendipity? Or you think serendipity only happens in fairy tales, like in the Persian story of the “Three Princes of Serendip”? At this week’s meeting, our Toastmaster Francisco will help us understand the joys of making accidental discoveries while looking for something totally unrelated with his theme of Serendipity. This week, we also have 3 prepared speeches: Kevin has recently came back from a long trip and he is ready to deliver his 2nd speech, Navita will play with her vocal variety while delivering her 6th speech called “Orange, Lettuce, Milk and…” and Jay will entertain us as usual with a speech after dinner.

Did we make you curious already? Then come to another Liberty Village Toastmasters meeting to quench your thirst for public speaking! See you tomorrow!

Liberty Village Toastmasters meeting summary – March 30

We had a great turn out at our March 30 meeting – over 20 people were in attendance! The first order of the day was to induct two new members. Welcome aboard Luke and Rene!

“Take it one thing at a time” was the evening’s theme. Toastmaster Esther told us we can’t do everything at once – just concentrate on one thing at a time.

The prepared speeches segment featured three speeches.

Fresh from his induction to the club, Luke delivered an impressive Ice Breaker like a pro. He really wanted to learn Spanish, so he moved to Mexico where he wrote music in Spanish and soon became a top recording artist. Very inspiring for those of us who want to learn a new language!

Next, Mike provided some nicely organized points from the book “The 4-Hour Work Week”. He also talked about ways to apply them.

Finally, after reworking his speech last week to fit into the “un-meeting” theme, Julian shifted his focus this week to the requirements of the Competent Communicator Manual speech number three. He talked about his long term goals for himself and the special people in his life.

Speaking of goals, some time was reserved during our meeting for people to meet with their mentors to discuss goals and challenges.

The Table Topics segment of the meeting was really interactive courtesy of our Table Topics Master, Vivienne. She distributed slips of paper containing 20 different questions to members. Table Topics speakers had to pick a number. The member containing the chosen number read the question from the paper and the speaker responded to the question posed.

We had some really interesting questions and equally entertaining responses. Jay walked away as the Table Topics winner when he suggested that the best car to drive in a road trip is a small car because it puts people together in a confined environment for a long time and the people in the car soon find out if they can really tolerate their car mates.

The overall meeting was great. We’d like to pay special recognition to the new members who took on meeting roles. Your enthusiasm made our evening very enjoyable and enriching

Thanks so much!

Looking forward to the next meeting!

Michelle
