Recap; Jan 22, 2014

By Clem D

Toastmaster for our meeting was Clem  and he encouraged us to never let the size of our “frying pan” prevent us from catching and retaining the opportunities that come our way.

Adelfettah presented his Ice-Breaker speech.  He spoke about how a mix up with school changed his plan from Law to Economics but instead of complaining that he didn’t get what he originally wanted he still pressed through and is doing very well.

Rosanne spoke about her life married to a teacher.  She touched upon the benefits and pitfalls that teachers endure and how it has affected her family.  One of the benefits is job security and a pitfall is that a teacher’s time off comes at the most of expensive time of the year to take family vacations. Summer and holidays.

Table Topic winner was Chris.

All our evaluators did a great job and we look forward to a great meeting next week.

Recap for January 15, 2014

Our Toastmaster was Emmanuel who spoke about our Emotional Intelligence. How to recognize it and use it in a positive and effective manner.

Tracey told us how her dog, a Jack Russell Terrier, single handily help her out of her state of depression by allowing her to take her eyes off of her own personal issues and focus on taking care of her dog. A change in perspective.

Michelle presented a well timed and necessary educational session on navigating our way through the various levels of Communication and Leadership that Toastmasters has to offer.  Now that we know what each level entails, we can know refocus our goals to achieving them.

Table Topics winner was John Kjarsgaard.

Great job by all our speakers and evaluators.  Stay tuned for some interesting news about some upcoming events.

Recap for Jan 8, 2014

By Tracey

The meeting theme was ‘New Years Resolutions’ and what a theme it was!! Table topics focused on the top 10 resolutions that end in failure, and included ‘off the cuff’ mini speeches on quitting smoking, travel, diet and nutrition, losing weight, alcohol, and saving money. Valarie won the table topics and inspired us all with her travel plans for Brazil. We also learned from Yuri that they don’t have New Years resolutions in Russia, because on New Years you’re supposed to be happy.

At this meeting we also had three ice breaker speeches. A great way to start the year!! Congratulations to Kelly, Mohamed, and Alana on completing their first speeches. Kelly’s speech was about multiple siblings, and we learned that Mohamed and Alana also have multiple siblings!! Kelly has three Mohamed has four, and Alana has three!  Clem finished off the speeches by encouraging us all to stay focused on our goals and to never give up.

A great meeting and a fun night all around!!!
