thumbnail_IMG_4736Our relocated meeting went off without any issues. Thank you Lillian H. Smith Library! The meeting was as wonderful as ever. Our first time Toastmaster Sarah Yang gave a great speech to start things off, and made sure the meeting had quick and smooth transitions, which ultimately made for a very productive meeting. Well done Sarah!

IMG_4737Our first speaker was Luke Talaba, shedding light onto the interesting topic of driver-less cars. Luke captured his audience with key phrases like “send a car to Ikea to pick up your order”. Thanks Luke for blowing my mind!

IMG_4732.PNGNext we had James Tran, giving us a speech about, and demonstrating, body language and both verbal and non-verbal language. Lots to take in with this one, thanks James.

IMG_4738Lastly in formal speeches, Bob Stewart gave a rousing speech on NOT waiting for life, and making things happen! You can’t wait for all your ducts to be in a row, you have to trust that they will fall in line, just like a Mother Duck. In a speech with life lessons and analogies, Bob was operating on all cylinders. Great work Bob!

Our Table Topics Master Olga had some interesting questions to challenge the club with, and ultimately it was John Krissilas who took the prize! Great job John!

Meeting Recap March 8 2017

Meeting Recap March 8 2017

This meeting was full of guests, speeches and fun! Our Toastmaster Mark Pilkington started off the meeting with a speech about perseverance and trying something new when hitting a roadblock.

Mark (1)

Next we had Bina Bath give a memorable speech about having a positive attitude, and how this can help in so many ways, throughout one’s life and hardships.  She even had a great visual aid. Great job Bina!

The second speech of the evening was presented by Wes Vick, always a crowd pleaser! Wes gave us savvy business knowledge,  based on the success and failure of a few examples of recognizable companies. Don’t be like Enron!

Our last formal speech of the evening was delivered by future DTM and master speaker, James Tran. With his acting shoes on, James half-transformed into Alex Baldwin and gave an interpretation of a famous scene from the movie GlenGarry Glen Ross. James is always pushing himself and his creativity to the next level. Great work James!

James

And lastly, first time Table Topics Master, Jueun Kim led a great session!

Being Authentic – February 22 Meeting Recap

Just be yourself.  We hear this often but it is so contradicting when everyone else is telling we should be this and that.  First time toastmaster Bina spoke about being authentic.  It takes courage to keep it real but the pay off is huge.  Bina encouraged us to free ourselves and live the way we want to live and be who we want to be. Ultimately, it is our life we’re talking about here.

Thanks Bina for this advice.  Part of Toastmaster is help us develop ourselves and release our true voice, our inner selves.

We had 3 speakers, all working on different manuals.

Ice breaker Camila delivered a speech on persistent.  It is never too late as Camila demonstrated again and again.   To list a few, she picked up Chinese, dancing skills and learn to bike in her 20’s.   Now she’s tackling public speaking. It is never too late to do what you want to do.

Second speaker Jueun, delivered her project on speaking to inform.  We learned that addiction is likely genetic but expressed when activated by our environment. This means our parents gave us our genes, but we do have the power to turn it on or keep it off.  Knowing this, let’s surround ourselves with good friends like our toastmaster members (is there such thing as being addicted to public speaking? Well at least most people still live after speaking in public).

Bring portable memory to life.  James persuaded Maria to buy a SD for 19.99! It was definitely a steal with all the list of benefits James spoke about.  On top of it, it comes with an adapter. If you’re looking for more storage, ask James and see if he can get a deal at Hole Puncher.

We ended our meeting with a tabletopics session, which was held by our assistant VP of Education/secretary, Maria.   Congrats Alex for winning tabletopics with her magical pen.  All in all, we were just keeping it real, having fun while refining ourselves.

Next meeting is our Area contest!  4 – 5 clubs competing for the Area title.  Come see the top speakers and evaluators from each club.   Mark and John will be representing our club!
