Comedy Night! — November 11 Meeting Recap

Andrew Nov 11

Why can’t we be more like sloths?

Our comedy night host Andrew pitched us on his new dietary revolution — digesting slowly, like a sloth — to help us save time, skip bathroom lines, and endure a Lord of the Rings marathon. Contact him to sign the petition….

Mark then shared another revolution, the “Wim Hof” method to surviving in adverse situations, before LVTM alumni Jay gave us three golden nuggets on how to survive (happily) in marriage. And of course, Carmelita helped us feel the fear with her inspiring rally: Cool moss!

The night featured guest appearances from alumni (Sean, Bing, Andreea, Ian, Millee) and friends (Karen), and ended with a LVTM tradition: drinks at a pub. Cool moss, cool moss, cool moss!

BMV! — November 4 Meeting Recap

John Nov 4

Ready to get back to basics?

As our Toastmaster, John shared the “BMV” of public speaking: the core fundamentals that will propel us through every speech, interview, and presentation. Mohammed then put the “B” into practice, inspiring us to know ourselves, set goals, and take action on our self development.

Be took the stage next, persuading us to pass on the steak and double up on the lentils with her clear and convincing “M”. Our guest speaker Wes used his “V” to get us thinking about accountability, both to ourselves and to others, while special guest Charmaine held our wardrobes accountable, using her “B” to show us how to dress in style.

And, with her effortless use of BMV, our guest Sohani won Table Topics, being accountable to no one except herself (…and her new ribbon!).

Trick or Treat? — October 28 Meeting Recap

Edwin Oct 28

Are you ready for Halloween?

Edwin made sure we all were with his Toastmaster’s speech, which spooked us with everything from the origins of All Hallows’ Eve to his plans for Oct. 31st. Plus, he brought candy!

Maxim tricked us with his three “Rules of Happiness”, putting an inspirational spin on our problems, posture, and fears, while James’ workshop on hosting a meeting was surely a treat — just ask Maxim, who wore a Toastmaster’s costume as he re-enacted the role’s main tasks.

Finally, Rose’s Table Topics session was ghoulishly good, as we were each paired with a Halloween character for an Oct. 31 dinner date. We heard about leprechauns, vampires, and even aliens, but it was our guest Emilio who got the final treat, winning it all with his date with a mummy. Boo!
