Liberty Village Toastmasters is back home after hosting our last two meetings around the great city of Toronto. The July 6th 2011 meeting is again being held at our usual spot at the Harbourfront Community Centre.

Don’t forget our Toastmasters meeting is at a new location this week – 43 Hanna Ave, 5th Floor – the heart of Liberty Village!

Toastmaster Bing will talk about leadership and Arvind, Michelle and Sean will be doing their tenth speeches from the CC manual.

Join us for our June 21 meeting: Assumptions

The theme of this week’s meeting is Assumptions, the art of seeing what we want to see and hearing what we want to hear. We assume every day…from assuming that our speech will be a big hit to assuming that the public will agree with our perspective …assumptions can build an entire imaginative inner world…Are assumptions a good thing? Our Toastmaster Andreea will share with us what she learnt about assumptions.

This week we have 2 strong speeches prepared by 2 of the most prestigious members of our club, John and Eric. They are meant to inspire and persuade us to act. Also, stay tuned for a fun Table Topics session!

And don’t forget that tomorrow we have a new location for our meeting, ING Direct Cafe on 221 Yonge Street at Yonge & Shuter (just one block south of Dundas). See you tomorrow!

Join us for a special meeting: Speaker’s Cafe @ the ING Direct Cafe

The bad news: over the next two weeks, our home sweet home, the Harbourfront Community Centre, will be closed. The good news: the Liberty Village Toastmasters are now free to tour the rest of the city, spreading the public-speaking love…!

Our first stop, this Wednesday, June 22nd, will be the ING Direct Cafe on 221 Yonge Street at Yonge & Shuter (just one block south of Dundas). Please join us there for a special LVTM “Speaker’s Cafe”:

LVTM meeting summary – June 8th, 2011

Our June 8th meeting opened with Arvind’s powerful introduction to the
theme of the evening which questions the culture of self-obesssion.
With products branding “I” – this and “me” – that, has altruism become
a lost art?!

Rene carried on the momentum of this theme in his 2nd CC speech
challenging us, this time, to think globally and not locally because
we do live in a globalized world afterall. Vivienne gave the
audience some much needed advice on how to take care of our hair in
her speech titled “A Hairy Tale”. Last but not least, you’ve heard
the saying, “keep your friends close; but your enemies closer”. Well,
advanced speaker, Bing, tought us that sometimes our enemies could be
our friends in her tentalizing story of Lightning and the Brain
(narf!).

Congratulations to John Kriss. for winning the covetted best table
topics speaker of the evening. John reminded us to take a deep breath
in our moments of panic and realise that the world isn’t really
burning down. Congratulations as well to Rose, Arvind, and Luke for
taking on their meeting roles for the first time! You guys carried
the meeting like veterans! Don’t miss next week’s meeting! My
insider sources tell me that it will be “majestic”.
