Say YES to Opportunity — August 5 Meeting Recap

What happens when we ignore our inner urge to say no and say YES when opportunities come calling?

According to Toastmaster John K, it will lead to new and exciting experiences that help us learn a lesson or two about ourselves and life. In his case, it was saying YES to dog sitting an 8-year-old chihuahua, Masha! John continued the theme of saying YES — this time to wine — by leading a demonstration talk on the 3 steps to a successful wine tasting.

And then the kicker (…or icebreaker). Casandra made her triumphant return to LVTM by delivering a totally unprepared Icebreaker speech, giving us a sneak peek of her newest business venture AND inspiring her guest, Justice, to deliver an impromptu guest-Icebreaker as well. Silvio topped off this night of YES by delivering a speech evaluation on the fly and serving as our meeting photographer. Wow!

Thinking On Your Feet — July 29 Meeting Recap

We can all stick to our goals when things are easy, but can we stay true to our vision when the going gets tough?

Atif exemplified great commitment by stepping up to the plate at the last minute to deliver his compelling Toastmaster speech which was appropriately titled “Thinking On Your Feet.” Mark continued the meeting’s theme of perseverance by sharing his story of survival — the time he successfully completed an obstacle course race which pushed him to the limit.

Jackie delivered her third speech in a row and recalled her experience of “leaning into minimalism,” sharing some key perception shifters that helped her along the way. The meeting concluded with a fun, summer themed Table Topics segment led by Be where everyone had an opportunity to deliver a short 1 -2 minute speech.

What’s the BEST that can happen? — July 22 Meeting Recap

Do you start off excited about something, but soon find yourself overtaken by fear?

Instead of asking, “What’s the worst that can happen?” John K. encouraged the audience to ask themselves, “What’s the BEST that can happen?” His Toastmaster speech gave everyone a boost of optimism and Rene’s speech, which followed, provided the practical tools we can all use to take action and get more involved in TM using Easy-speak.

Jackie continued to play off of John’s theme of looking at the positive with her speech about the long journey to finally adopting the dog she’s always wanted: her 14-week-old Labradoodle puppy, “Mokasin”. Finally, the meeting concluded on a high note when our guest, Reshu, won table topics after some initial hesitancy, proving that no matter how fearful it can seem the best thing can indeed happen when you say “yes” and take the stage.
