Recap for Nov 20, 2013

By Clem D,

Today are room exploded with ten new guests with half of them signed up to become members next month.  We look forward to helping you along with your success in Toastmasters.

Tracey did a great job as Toastmaster for the first time. She spoke about “Pop Culture” and how it has become very influential in the way our society thinks and makes their choices. President Obama’s first election campaign is a great example of this proof.

Jackie’s Ice-Breaker speech was very inspirational as she spoke about her current job that   was birthed out of a desire to find purpose to her life and in that; her happiness and self-worth.

Yury encouraged us to invest in our own future financially and through “Green initiatives”. In doing so, we need to research and understand that whatever or whomever we invest in, should be beneficial to our future.

Clem closed us off with a story about doing the unthinkable and living to tell other about it.  No matter how big the mountain may look or how crazy your idea may be, don’t let fear hold you back from achieving your goals.

Great job from all our evaluators.

Profound Feedback from one of our guests: “Every time I come, I leave learning something different; a life lesson.”

Recap Nov 13, 2013

By Clem D

Tonight we had a packed event with ( 5 ) speakers on the agenda & ( 8 ) visiting guests.

We started off with Clem D as our Toastmaster and he encouraged us to “Embrace our Struggles” as they are necessary to make us stronger, smarter and more prepared for what awaits us in the future.

Tracey enlighten us on ( 5 ) points to help us for when we are going to “Meet the Parents” of our significant other. Smile, Be polite, Be genuine, Dress appropriately, Be yourself.

Helen made us realize “How far $560.00 can go”. Even though we may want materialistic things or host a fancy party, all those things pale in comparison to investing in the life and well-being of a human being.

Felix took us on a ride through the means of flight. He spoke about the skills that a pilot must have when landing in dangerous conditions and that even though it may be “Clear for taking-off”, this is optional, it’s the landing  part that is the most important task.

Wayne encouraged us to follow some simple and practical ways to help build up our club membership. Whether it is by calling our friends, using social media or handing out flyers, it is even more important to make a guest feel welcome such a friendly handshake or getting to know their name can make all the difference.

Valarie closed us off by describing what it takes to be a leader when planning an event. She described some of the things she had to go through while planning our 10th Anniversary last summer and achieving her High Performance Level award.

Thanks to all the evaluators and guests for making this a great evening.

Until next time.

Recap for Nov 6, 2013

By Clem D

Rene was our Toastmaster and he spoke on “breathing and relaxing”.

Newly inducted member Jacqueline, took the reigns as our General Evaluator and she did an excellent job.

Mitch presented his “Ice-Breaker” speech in which he spoke about events in his life [school, family, career] that has helped shape him into the man he is today. Well done.

Michael spoke about his physical and psychological experiences in the Austrian Army and his adventure in an army truck loaded with live ammunition. You will be missed as you travel back to Austria.

Congrats to Wayne as he completed is Competent Communication manual by presenting speech number ten.  He brought to light that Canadian Soldiers risk their lives in various wars because, if Canada was not a free country, wouldn’t we want someone to fight for us?

John Krissilas conducted a workshop on the art of Table Topics, why we have it, how to conduct one and how to gain confidence when speaking. Very well done and timely needed.

We welcomed five guests and look forward to seeing them again in the near future.

Until next time. Nov 13, 2013
