Make up your mind! — Jan 27 Meeting Recap

01 Wes Jan 27

How do you conquer indecisiveness?

First-time Toastmaster Wes made up his mind about making quicker decisions, from what to wear in the morning to finally joining Toastmasters. Cristina used the “rubber band technique” to go with black shoes over brown, while guest speaker Pranay simply followed his heart, to Canada. And in a speech by management, Karoline decided to go easy on Mark, making up her mind about being a good boss.

Congrats to Cristina, who checked “standing ovation” off her bucket list while being inducted as our newest member, and Jordan, whose confidence in Table Topics helped us… make up our minds!

NEXT WEEK: Spring Contest
Speeches! Evaluations! We’ll be put to the test in our International Speech & Evaluation Contest, hosted by past president Karoline. Featuring an all-star panel of guest judges, plus a very special target speaker…

A Helping Hand — Jan 20 Meeting Recap

Jan 20 John

Have you helped someone recently?

As our Toastmaster, John shared how helping a family of refugees get started in their new life in Canada actually helped him grow and gain perspective. Then, our new VP Education Be helped us understand the two streams in Toastmasters (communication & leadership) and encouraged us to set our goals for 2016 (hint: email her).

Arash’s Icebreaker speech took us halfway around the world, to Israel, where he helped out a non-profit as a volunteer, while Maxim’s speech took us to a kitchen, an irate spouse, and a lesson on body language. Finally, Mohammed gave a dramatic turn as two little people and two mice on a quest for missing cheese — proving that Toastmasters does indeed help!

A special good-bye to Maxim, who gave his final speech at our club before moving to the ‘burbs. He’s improved so much in the past year, he even won Table Topics! Good luck, Maxim.

NEXT WEEK: “Make up your mind!”
Wes will be our Toastmaster, and we’ll hear speeches from Cristina, our guest speaker Pranay, and Karoline.

Chill out! — Jan 13 Meeting Recap

01 Andrew Jan 13

Stop! Now take a deep, deep breath…

…and you’re relaxed. That was just one of many “chill out” techniques our Toastmaster Andrew taught us during his relaxing start to the meeting. Wes followed with a thoughtful journey to his past, present, and future in his Icebreaker speech, while Richard stayed cool through a test run of his upcoming talk at a conference. Whew!

Congrats to Wes for winning Table Topics with his chilling pitch for Netflix’s Making a Murderer, and for being inducted as our newest member.

NEXT WEEK:
Speeches from Arash, Maxim, Mohammed, and more…

Beginnings — Jan 6 Meeting Recap

Be Jan 6

Need some inspiration for 2016?

Our special “combined” meeting with UHN Toastmasters provided plenty. Toastmaster Be encouraged us to make a new best friend this year — yourself! — and to take yourself along for the ride. Cristina shared her own beginning in her Icebreaker speech, filled with change and transformation, while Ray inspired us to transform ourselves into coaches and mentors. Finally, James shared the story of Tommy the rabbit, who showed great courage and persisted through adversity.

Table Topics was won by our guest Bob, who’s beginning 2016 by joining several Toastmasters clubs. Congrats!

NEXT WEEK: Our first meeting back at the Harbourfront Community Centre, 6:15pm.
